How to Play Airball
An engaging and dynamic outdoor game that emphasizes skill, strategy, and physical activity
Basic Concept: Players face off on opposite sides of a court, with the server hitting the ball in the air before sending it over and the receiver using two hits after one bounce to return it.
1Setup
- Draw a rectangle on a flat, hard surface: 24 feet long by 16 feet wide
- Leave at least 10 feet of empty space around all sides
- Draw a line down the middle to create two equal halves
- Draw a "spiking line" on each side, 7 feet from the middle line
- Create three equal zones (5'4" each) on both sides of the middle line
2Gameplay
- The receiving player must let the ball bounce once, then return it with two hits
- One hit in the air, followed by one hit to the other side
- If a player touches the ball before it bounces, the opponent scores
- If a player fails to hit the ball twice, the opponent scores
- If the ball lands on the line, the play is redone
3Serving
- Server must stand with both feet stationary in square A
- Toss the ball upward and hit it twice toward the opponent's side
- No moving feet during serve
- No severe bending or squatting
- Cannot bounce the ball before serving
4Spiking
- Hits must be upward unless spiking
- Ball must be hit from the spiking box directly in front of you
- No part of your arm/hand goes above your shoulder
- Second bounce stays within the court's side boundaries
- May go beyond front/back boundaries
5General Rules
- All hits must be forceful - no soft touches or drop shots
- Second bounce must land on opponent's side of court
- Cannot step on opponent's side of court
- Players may overturn referee calls through mutual consent
- Both players must clearly see and agree on what happened
